Did you know that students can now log into SchoolFusion using the same username and password that is used to log into the LISD network? Any Lubbock ISD student grades 3rd-12th can log into any school Web site and gain access to many important and useful tools. Students will log in at the top of any school Web site where it says, "Login."
So, what happens when a student logs into a school Web site? Under the thumbnail calendar on the left-hand side of the screen, there will be a "Welcome" message. From here a student can easily access any teacher classroom FusionPages of which they are a memeber. This membership has already been established through the process of schools' scheduling and TEAMS. Students can access their teachers' profiles, as well. Additionally, students and teachers at the same campus will be able to communicate with each other through the SchoolFusion messaging system; however students cannot message other students through the system. Students do not have to use an e-mail account to message teachers. Students can participate in blogs and discussion topics that their assigned teachers post. They will also be able to submit any homework online that a teacher has assigned as well as complete any quizzes a teacher has created for students to take. There are many great possibilities for interaction of students and curriculum areas along with the integration of technology into concepts being taught in the classroom.
Beginning in January, parents will be able to register for accounts on SchoolFusion. Once they have created accounts by providing the necessary information, there will be a “My Family” link in the Personal Dashboard. Parents will be able to link a child(ren) to their account and have direct access to all classes and teachers with whom the child is associated, based on class schedules. In the meantime, we would like to offer the option of having parent accounts to LISD employees who are parents of students in LISD. If you are interested in having a SchoolFusion account which gives direct access to teacher pages, as well as access to the assignments assigned via the Homework tool, please send an email to Sarah Ancell (email@example.com). Be sure to use your LISD email account, rather than a personal email account, when sending this request. Include your legal name, email user name, and the school to which you are assigned. Your account will then be modified to include parent access. You can then add your students (up to 4 at a time) to your account by going to your Personal Dashboard (below the thumbnail calendar) and click on “My Family”. There you will find an “Add your student” link. Clicking on this link will open a screen asking you for your child’s Student ID# and Passcode (last 4 digits of student’s SSN). If you have questions or problems, please refer to the contact information at the end of this newsletter.
With parent accounts on the horizon, what does that mean for classroom teachers? This exciting opportunity will provide teachers with another way to communicate to parents all the wonderful teaching and learning that is going on in the classroom. In order to get ready for parent access, teachers may want to visit the SchoolFusion Help Site containing documents and videos explaining how to merge multiple classroom FusionPages, how to manage multiple FusionPages, how to use the tools on a classroom page and many other helpful topics. By clicking on the following links, you will be taken to Help Documents or, if you prefer to watch a “How-To” video, there are many video tutorials that you can view while you are working simultaneously on your classroom FusionPage. Classroom FusionPage trainings are also offered through Eduphoria if you would like to attend a class. If you have questions or problems, please refer to the contact information at the end of this newsletter.
School Web site Highlights
In this section of the newsletter, we will periodically highlight how different school Web sites have effectively used SchoolFusion to communicate with parents, students, and the Lubbock community.
Smith Elementary - What’s the best way to communicate upcoming events, reminders, and anything else going on at your school? Smith Elementary gets Kudos for their effective use of the announcements on the front page of their Web site. If you visit http://smith.lubbockisd.org, you immediately notice several things:
• the font and graphics are all consistent in size
• there are no out of date announcements
• colors do not distract from the message
• the font is standard to SchoolFusion
Congratulations Smith on your wonderful use of the announcements tool! You can view an announcement on the Smith Web site congratulating them.
Web site Administrators
If you are part of a Web site team that administers your school’s Web site, this section is for you. Some things to remember when updating announcements on your Web site are:
• be sure to set an end date for your announcement to “go away” so that announcements about GOALS meetings, for example, are no longer displayed
• be consistent in the size of graphics and text
• be consistent in the placement of graphics and text on the page
• do not let font color detract from your message
• do not copy and paste non-standard fonts into an announcement
If you would like some help or tips on making the most out of your school's announcements page, be sure refer to the contact information at the end of this newsletter.
